There may be times when a page on your website seems particularly slow to load.
In order for our team to quickly analyze the problem and find a solution, we need some simple technical information that you can send us yourself.
Good news: it takes less than 3 minutes and does not require any special software, just Google Chrome.
Step 1 – Identify the page and time of the problem
First of all, note:
- The address (URL) exact of the slow page.
- The time to which you noticed the slowness.
- An estimate: “It took about 10 seconds for the content to load.”
Step 2 – Open Chrome Tools (DevTools)
- Open the slow page in Google Chrome.
- Place the cursor anywhere on the page, right-click, then click “Inspect” or “Inspect Page”
- A window will open at the bottom or side of your screen: these are the DevTools of Chrome.
Step 3 – Capture Network Data (HAR File)
- In DevTools, click the tab Network.
- Reload the page (keyF5or button ⟳).
You will see a list of files and loading times. - On the second toolbar, below the one with the “Network” tab, you will see an icon that will allow you to export HAR file.
4. Save the file.hair on your computer.
Step 4 – (Optional) Capture a Performance Profile
If you want to go a little further:
- In DevTools, go to the tab Performance.
- Click ● (record), then reload the page.
- Stop recording after a few seconds.
- Save the generated profile which has the extension.json
Step 5 – Send the information to our team
Send us:
- The file.HAR (and the Performance profile.json if available).
- The URL of the page.
- Time for the test.
- Your impression of the slowness (e.g., “the page took 12 seconds to load”).
With this information we will be able to reproduce the situation, identify the cause (server, code, images, third-party scripts, etc.) and act quickly.
Why is this important?
Receiving a simple HAR file allows us to see exactly what your browser downloaded, in what order, and how long each item took.
It is the most effective tool for understanding slowdowns.
